David Hirsch was inspired to create theBohan-DillonPinot Noir as an homage to the greatvillagewines of France: a wine full of place and personality, made with the same attention and integrity as the top wines, yet at an incredible price.
In 2020, about 73% of the grapes in theBohan-DillonPinot Noircame from Hirsch; the balance from the Hellenthal Vineyard, the only vineyard contiguous to us. These areserious Pinot Noir vineyards, with 93% of the vines between 20 and 30 years of age.
The 2020Bohan-Dillonis fresh and energetic, with notes of sweet strawberries, orange peel and bergamot. The impressive tannins that are a hallmark of the 2020 vintage are present here, making this a more structuredBohan-Dillonthan in past years. We recommend decanting if you plan to drink it young, and this is certainly a wine that can go the distance in the cellar.
We make theBohan-Dillonthe same way we make our top wines; the only difference is a shorter time in barrel. It's in the blending that theBohan-Dillonis differentiated from our other wines. For theBohan, we select the most charming, silky barrels from the vintage, with an emphasis on gentle tannins and exuberantfruit.
TheBohan-Dillonis a wine for everyday drinking, yet also has the potential to age. It can be enjoyed young, guzzled at a picnic, and it pairs perfectly with pizza. Or you can bury your nose in the glass and nerd out over aromas of crushed fresh strawberries, hints of licorice and notes of bergamot.
There need not be a contradiction between drinkability and integrity. In theBohan-Dillonyou will find an irresistibly delicious wineof great quality, traditional varietal character, and sense of place.
