The 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (11th MEU) is a rapidly deployable force of the United States Marine Corps. It falls under the command of the I Marine Expeditionary Force and is based out of Camp Pendleton, California. The unit consists of a ground combat element, an aviation combat element, a logistics combat element, and a command element. The 11th MEU's primary role is to conduct amphibious operations and provide crisis response capabilities around the world. It can be deployed on short notice to respond to various types of contingencies, such as humanitarian assistance missions, counterterrorism operations, or peacekeeping activities. Its deployment aboard the Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and the Dock Landing Ship (LSD) allows it to move quickly and project power from the sea.
